The Green Party of Kent County (Michigan, USA) is associated with the Green Party and the green movement worldwide. Our beliefs can be summed up in our "four pillars" of the Green Party: Social and Economic Justice Nonviolence Grassroots Democracy Ecological Wisdom We meet on an as-needed basis, plus an annual meeting each September. We are a member of the West Michigan Justice and Peace Coalition (see wmjpc.org), the only such coalition that operates openly and cooperatively, and supports nonviolence. WMJPC monthly meetings are normally held at 7:30pm each third Tuesday of the month at the Institute for Global Education, 1118 Wealthy St. SE, Grand Rapids (see www.iserv.net/~ige).
We are currently supporting the Presidential campaign of Cynthia McKinney, the leading candidate for the Green Party nomination for that office. We are also looking into the possibility of getting instant runoff voting established locally in Grand Rapids. This system would avoid the so-called "spoiler" effect, would save money by avoiding the need for primary elections, and would assure that the winner of an election is supported by a majority of voters. Other ongoing activities include working to end the war against Iraq and to stop similar wars around the world, and supporting the national "No War/No Warming" initiative
